To Win the War on Terror, the Terrorists Must Live in Fear of Us, NOT the Other Way Around
The attack on 9-11 put the entire nation, and much of the world in shock. The years have gone by and we have been blessed because so many people have worked so hard to prevent another attack, but they have always warned that the time would come – and now it has.
The attack at the Boston Marathon on Patriot’s Day 2013 has put us back into shock. Once again we must face our vulnerability, and face the fact that we will forever be a target. The people who hate us will never go away, and they will not stop hatting us. We cannot change that, and the war on terror is primarily a war of prevention. We need a strong deterrent if we are to stop them.
Once again we find ourselves looking over our shoulder, and becoming suspicious of each other out of the fear that has once again crept into our lives. We will go on with life as usual, but it won’t be the same as it once was. We will go to work, school, sporting events, and other activities with caution and worry. Some may not go to events they would have gone to previously. Now that airlines are so very safe, it is the events of our daily lives that will be primary targets.
It is easy to secure the airports, sports stadiums, and events in buildings, but how do we secure a 26.2 mile marathon? Or even worse, a youth sports events like soccer on a field in a city park? Each time we beef up security and eliminate the big events the terrorists will move to the smaller, non-secure activities of our lives.
We cannot, so we must instead cause terrorists to fear us more than we fear them. They must not even consider leaving a bomb in a trash can at a city park.
We must do more than just become vigilant, educated, and informed. We must learn what to do to stay safe, and how to react if we find ourselves at an attack like the one at the Boston Marathon. The most important thing for us to do is to not give in to the fear, worry, and dread because if we do, we lose the war. That is what terrorists want to have happen.
They want us to live in fear. Each of us must determine in our own heart and mind that we will not let that happen. We must reverse the entire situation and cause the terrorists to be the ones to live in fear. This is a war, and must be handled as any war.
We must go after them, and stop them with such shock and awe that no one will ever consider attacking again. Courts and lawyers should not be a part of our response to terrorism. War is war. We need a “real” 007, or Mission Impossible, or even a G.I. Joe team to be given authority to just eliminate the threat. Our various Special Forces military teams are trained, experienced, and equipped to do the job right now. Why hit every known terrorist world-wide in a co-ordinated attack all at the same time? Take no prisoners, and no Miranda rights.
Show the world that we are not to be messed with. This should be a well-publicized Special Forces team that will be feared world-wide. The enemies of our country, and our way of life, should live in fear that this force will come after them. No one would ever attack us again if we were to respond in such an all-out, decisive way.
